Millie, a California-based maternity clinic founded by Anu Sharma, has successfully raised $12 million in a Series A funding round, with investors including RH Capital, TMV, and Melinda French Gates’ Pivotal Ventures.
Sharma’s inspiration for creating the company came after the birth of her daughter in 2019. Facing pregnancy complications, and being the daughter of a doctor, she was able to recognize symptoms that were overlooked by medical staff. This experience motivated her to create a maternity clinic that would provide the kind of care she wished she had during her own pregnancy.
Launched in 2022, Millie offers a comprehensive range of services including maternity and gynecology care, postpartum coaching, mental health support, and nutrition counseling. The clinic partners with all major insurance companies and offers both in-person and virtual care, supported by a tech platform that provides patient monitoring tools. Competitors in this space include Quilted Health and Oula.
“What sets Millie apart is our hybrid model, which combines in-person care at our clinics with virtual visits, remote monitoring, and a proprietary app,” Sharma explained to TechCrunch. “We do this through a capital-efficient approach, increasingly powered by AI-enabled workflows, in partnership with payors and health systems.”
Millie’s cap table is made up entirely of female-led firms. With nearly $19 million raised to date, the company plans to use the new funding to expand its physical presence across California, enhance its technology offerings, and broaden its network of healthcare partners.
