LAHORE – The Punjab government has announced that all motorcyclists in the province will now be required to obtain a fitness certificate, a move aimed at improving road safety and curbing pollution.
According to a notification issued on Friday, the provincial transport department has made it compulsory for both private and commercial motorcycles to pass a fitness inspection. The decision comes amid growing concerns over the rising number of road accidents and the deteriorating condition of many two-wheelers on the roads.
Officials said the initiative will ensure that motorcycles meet minimum safety and environmental standards. The fitness certificates will be issued following inspections at designated centers across the province.
Motorcyclists who fail to obtain the certificate within the given deadline may face fines or legal action. The government is also planning to launch an awareness campaign to educate the public about the new policy.
Authorities believe this step will help reduce the number of accidents caused by poorly maintained vehicles and will encourage greater compliance with traffic laws.
Further details regarding the implementation timeline and inspection fees are expected to be announced soon.
