LAHORE: The water filtration plants installed across Lahore have failed to receive a clean bill of health in a recent assessment, raising serious concerns over water quality being supplied to residents.
According to a report submitted to the Punjab government, several filtration plants are either non-functional or providing substandard water that does not meet safety standards. The assessment, carried out by relevant authorities, found irregularities in maintenance, poor operational oversight, and inadequate testing of water samples.
The inspection revealed that many plants lacked timely filter replacements, and chlorination processes were either insufficient or absent altogether. Additionally, some filtration units were found operating without proper supervision or routine quality checks.
Officials said the report has prompted the provincial authorities to take notice, with directives expected to be issued for a comprehensive overhaul of the system. The Punjab government is reportedly considering new guidelines to ensure proper functioning, periodic audits, and stricter enforcement of hygiene and safety protocols.
Residents in affected areas have repeatedly voiced concerns about the taste, smell, and clarity of drinking water, demanding urgent corrective measures. The report has further intensified calls for accountability and improved infrastructure to provide safe drinking water in the provincial capital.
