Murree: Heavy rainfall over the past three days has triggered devastating landslides in the Parhana area of Murree, located along the route to Kotli Sattian. At least seven families have been rendered homeless, while several other houses have sustained partial damage. The continued movement of debris has placed dozens more homes at risk of collapse.
The landslides have also blocked the main road connecting Murree with Kotli Sattian, severely disrupting traffic and cutting off access for local residents. Efforts to clear the road have been hampered by ongoing sliding of mud and rocks, despite the deployment of heavy machinery by the highway department.
Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi is supervising rescue and relief efforts. Personnel from Rescue 1122 and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have established a permanent camp in the area to coordinate the response. Temporary shelters, tents, and blankets have been provided to affected families.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed local authorities to take immediate action to assist the victims and restore infrastructure. Meanwhile, MNA Raja Osama Sarwar and MPA Bilal Yamin Satti visited the area to assess the damage and promised financial compensation for those affected. Relief packages, including food and other essential items, are also being distributed.
Despite clearer weather conditions on Monday, the main road remains inaccessible due to continued landslides, leaving many students unable to reach schools and colleges.
Authorities have assured that all possible resources are being utilized to restore normalcy, assist displaced residents, and ensure the safety of those still living in vulnerable areas.
