LAHORE: Negotiations between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership and provincial authorities over the fate of suspended PTI-backed MPAs have failed to produce any significant progress, though both sides have agreed to continue the dialogue.
The suspended lawmakers had been penalized earlier for defying party discipline, with the matter now evolving into a political standoff. Sources indicate that recent talks, held in a bid to resolve the issue, remained inconclusive, as disagreements persist over the possible reinstatement or replacement of the affected members.
PTI leaders have maintained that the suspensions were politically motivated and have demanded a transparent review process. They argue that the party’s electoral mandate must be respected, and any decisions regarding elected representatives should reflect the will of the voters.
Meanwhile, government officials have insisted that the suspensions followed proper legal and procedural grounds. They contend that restoring the lawmakers without addressing the disciplinary violations could set an unhealthy precedent.
