RAWALPINDI: At least six people were killed and 38 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine near the Chakri Interchange in the early hours of Sunday.
According to rescue officials, the bus was traveling from Lahore to Islamabad when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a deep ditch.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation, shifting the injured to nearby hospitals. Several passengers were said to be in critical condition.
Initial investigations suggest negligence on the part of the driver, who was reportedly speeding on a curved section of the highway. Authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause and responsibility.
The tragic accident has once again raised concerns over road safety, especially on major highways, where reckless driving and poor vehicle maintenance often lead to fatal mishaps.
