Shogran: Tourists visiting the scenic Shogran valley in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have voiced strong complaints over being overcharged by local transporters, hoteliers, and jeep operators, raising concerns about the lack of regulatory oversight in the popular tourist destination.
Visitors said that due to the recent Eid holidays, prices of accommodation, food, and transportation have skyrocketed. In particular, the cost of jeep rides from Kiwai to Shogran and beyond to Siri Paye has more than doubled, with drivers charging between Rs7,000 to Rs10,000 for a round trip — a significant jump from the usual Rs3,000 to Rs4,000 fare.
Complaints were also raised regarding the condition of roads and the lack of basic public facilities such as clean restrooms and waste disposal systems. Tourists criticized local authorities for their failure to monitor and regulate tourism-related services, which has led to widespread exploitation and deteriorating visitor experiences.
Many families visiting the area expressed disappointment, stating that while Shogran offers natural beauty and pleasant weather, the lack of infrastructure and unchecked profiteering have severely marred their trips.
Tourists have urged the provincial government and tourism department to implement strict price controls, improve infrastructure, and introduce proper management systems to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all visitors.
