Islamabad – The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) jirga has strongly rejected the formation of the government committee tasked with overseeing reforms in the ex-FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) region. The religious-political party demands greater provincial autonomy and more inclusive consultations regarding the integration and development of the erstwhile tribal areas.

In a statement released following the jirga meeting, JUI-F leaders expressed concerns that the current committee lacks adequate representation from local stakeholders and tribal elders. They criticized the government for sidelining traditional leadership and failing to address the unique socio-political dynamics of the merged districts.

The party emphasized that meaningful reforms in ex-FATA require greater devolution of powers to the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and active involvement of tribal communities in decision-making. JUI-F officials called for transparent mechanisms that respect tribal customs while facilitating development and governance reforms.

This rejection adds to growing political friction surrounding the integration process, with various parties demanding more comprehensive frameworks to manage the challenges in ex-FATA. Observers note that successful reform implementation hinges on inclusive dialogue and balancing federal and provincial authorities’ roles.

JUI-F also highlighted issues such as security concerns, infrastructure deficits, and the need for accelerated socio-economic development to stabilize the region and improve residents’ quality of life.

The party urged the federal government to reconsider its approach and initiate broader consultations with tribal leaders, political parties, and civil society to ensure that reforms align with the aspirations of ex-FATA residents.
