Renowned actress Sanam Saeed has called television Pakistan’s most influential and far-reaching medium, praising its unique ability to shape public opinion and deliver meaningful narratives to the masses. Speaking at a recent event, Saeed emphasized that for most of the country’s population, especially in rural and underprivileged areas, television is the only accessible form of entertainment.

She highlighted that women, in particular—many of whom are unable to travel or pursue education—gain exposure to different lifestyles, perspectives, and role models through TV dramas. According to Saeed, television plays a critical role in shaping societal values and behaviors. She urged producers and writers to recognize this responsibility and focus on content that promotes positive change.

Saeed also noted that while Pakistan has experienced growth in cinema and digital platforms, television continues to be the most trusted and intimate medium, reaching people directly in their homes. Unlike cinema, which is limited by infrastructure and affordability, television is available to a broad audience, making it a powerful tool for education, awareness, and transformation.

Referring to her own career, Sanam Saeed said she consciously chooses roles that inspire and challenge stereotypes. She pointed to her characters in acclaimed dramas as examples of strong female leads that serve as role models for young viewers. She called for more such characters—both male and female—in Pakistani storytelling.

While acknowledging Pakistan’s rising presence in global cinema and music, she stressed that television remains the country’s backbone for storytelling and cultural communication. She concluded by encouraging content creators to take pride in the medium and use it to foster empathy, unity, and progress in society
