KALAT — At least three people were killed and seven others injured when gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus near Niemurgh Cross in Kalat district, Balochistan. The victims were members of a Karachi-based Qawwali ensemble traveling to Quetta for a scheduled performance.
The attack occurred as the bus was en route from Karachi to Quetta. Security forces responded promptly, evacuating the injured to nearby hospitals and launching search operations to apprehend the attackers.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, the provincial government has blamed Indian-backed separatists for orchestrating such acts of violence in the region, although no concrete evidence has been presented.
This attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where separatist insurgencies have frequently targeted civilians and security personnel. Authorities have pledged to intensify security measures and bring the perpetrators to justice.
