The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has urged members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to take their oaths promptly to enable the smooth conduct of upcoming Senate elections. The delay in swearing in opposition members had previously caused postponement of Senate polls in the province.

The K-P Assembly has a significant role in electing senators, and the ECP emphasized that completing the oath-taking process is essential for the provincial assembly to fulfill its constitutional duties. Without the full assembly membership sworn in, the Senate elections cannot proceed as scheduled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Political parties and lawmakers have been called upon to cooperate with the ECP and expedite the oath-taking ceremony. This step is expected to resolve existing hurdles and allow the Senate polls to move forward without further delays.

The Senate elections are critical as they determine the balance of power in the upper house of Parliament, influencing legislative processes and government stability. The ruling coalition and opposition are both keenly watching the developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
