RAWALPINDI – Thieves have stolen six batteries from a flood warning post on Nullah Leh at Pirwadhai, cutting off its connection with the main Flood Control Room. The system, in service since 2006, is one of ten posts managed across the twin cities.

Flood Control Room in-charge Rizwan Ahmed reported that broken locks and missing batteries were discovered during routine checks. He immediately filed a burglary report with Ganjmandi police. The disruption was detected when the warning post lost communication with the central monitoring system.

Officials say the affected post will be quickly reconnected—with replacement batteries expected to be installed within two days. Despite this setback, only one site is currently nonfunctional, and emergency flood monitoring remains operational across the city.

The incident has sparked concern over the vulnerability of critical meteorological infrastructure used in flood management and early warning systems.
