Punjab is facing severe challenges as heavy monsoon rains continue to batter the province, causing widespread destruction, loss of life, and injuries. At least 44 people have died, and hundreds have been injured due to flooding, roof collapses, electrocutions, and drowning incidents.

Lahore experienced the heaviest rainfall, with 170 millimeters recorded, triggering multiple roof collapses and electrocution cases. In Muridwal village near Thokar Niaz Baig, a tragic incident saw five family members perish when their home’s roof caved in. Other deaths were reported from Mission Colony, Kot Jamal, Okara, and Faisalabad.

Okara alone reported seven fatalities, including five children, caused by collapsing structures and electrocution. Faisalabad witnessed 23 roof collapse incidents resulting in seven deaths and dozens injured.

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued warnings of more heavy rain for several divisions, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur. Residents are urged to avoid living in unsafe mud or dilapidated homes, which have been the sites of most fatal collapses.

Meanwhile, Islamabad and Rawalpindi have seen only light to moderate rains without major flooding. Emergency response teams remain on alert in these areas, with equipment deployed to vulnerable low-lying zones.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to provide immediate and quality medical care to those injured in rain-related incidents. She also announced financial assistance for the families of those who lost their lives.

Officials continue to advise residents to stay updated on weather alerts and cooperate with local administration for any necessary evacuations as the monsoon season progresses.
