LAHORE – At least 11 people were killed and 1,256 others sustained injuries in 1,119 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the past 24 hours, according to official data.

Out of the total injured, 490 individuals with serious wounds were shifted to various hospitals for advanced medical treatment, while 766 people with minor injuries received on-site care from Rescue 1122 medical teams.

The majority of the accidents—82 percent—involved motorcycles, indicating the high risk faced by two-wheeler riders on the province’s roads. An analysis of the casualties revealed that 729 drivers, including 56 underage drivers, were involved in the incidents. Additionally, 131 pedestrians and 407 passengers were among the victims.

Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic crashes, with 193 incidents impacting 228 individuals, placing the city at the top of the list, followed by Multan and other major urban centres.

Authorities have expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents and stressed the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, particularly against underage and unlicensed drivers. Road safety experts have also called for public awareness campaigns and improved infrastructure to curb the rising trend of traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
