PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has approached the Peshawar High Court seeking official recognition of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a political party. The petition challenges certain provisions of the Election Rules 2017, arguing that they conflict with the Election Act 2017.

The Chief Minister’s petition names the federal government, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and other authorities as respondents. It emphasizes that PTI remains an active political party and currently holds a majority in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

However, the Election Commission has excluded PTI from its list of recognized political parties due to issues related to the party’s electoral symbol. This legal challenge aims to clarify PTI’s status and ensure its continued participation in political processes.

This move comes amid ongoing political tensions affecting PTI’s position, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The High Court’s forthcoming decision is expected to have important consequences for the party’s operations and representation in the province.
