KARACHI – A confrontation at the Ibrahim Ali Bhai Graveyard in Orangi Town turned deadly when a gravedigger fatally stabbed a man and injured another during a dispute over alleged drug use inside the cemetery.

The incident occurred when gravedigger Muhammad Hasnain attempted to stop two men from using drugs within the graveyard premises. The two individuals, identified as 48-year-old Muhammad Ali and 26-year-old Imran, reportedly resisted the intervention, leading to a violent scuffle.

During the altercation, Hasnain attacked both men with a sharp weapon. Muhammad Ali succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Imran was critically wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police arrived at the scene and took Hasnain into custody. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.

Local residents say the graveyard has long been a hotspot for drug addicts and anti-social elements due to a lack of proper security and monitoring. They expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of public cemeteries, which have increasingly become unsafe and neglected.

The incident has sparked calls from the community for tighter security measures, routine patrols, and a crackdown on illegal activities within graveyards to ensure the sanctity of these resting places and the safety of those working or visiting there.
