ISLAMABAD — July 20, 2025: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to form Joint Working Groups (JWGs) aimed at enhancing bilateral connectivity and strengthening their strategic economic partnership. The focus of these groups will be on improving rail and trade infrastructure between the two countries.
The decision came during a high-level meeting at Pakistan’s Ministry of Railways, chaired by the Minister of State for Railways and Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani. The meeting brought together key officials to discuss expanding cross-border linkages and promoting mutual economic interests. Pakistan’s State Minister emphasized the government’s strong commitment to developing and modernizing the national railway network as part of a broader regional connectivity strategy.
Discussions also highlighted a recent rail agreement involving Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan, underscoring its importance for regional trade and logistics.
In parallel, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. Both officials reaffirmed the strategic partnership between their countries and expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation in various sectors.
The establishment of the Joint Working Groups is expected to accelerate collaboration in trade, transportation, and infrastructure development, further solidifying the close and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
