ISLAMABAD – Indonesia’s Defence Minister, Lieutenant General (Retired) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on July 15 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.

During his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Indonesian Defence Minister conveyed warm regards from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and highlighted the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Indonesia. Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening ties, especially in defence production, as well as collaboration across economic, strategic, and trade sectors.

At the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, the Defence Minister also held talks with the Chief of Army Staff, where discussions focused on regional security issues and expanding military cooperation. Field Marshal Munir underscored the significance of mutual support to maintain peace and stability in the region.

This visit builds upon the existing Pakistan-Indonesia Defence Cooperation Agreement, with both sides expressing interest in accelerating joint defence production projects and enhancing collaboration in counter-terrorism efforts.

The meetings signal a growing partnership aimed at deepening strategic ties and improving defence capabilities, which are expected to contribute positively to regional security and stability.
