Lahore was again ranked the world’s most polluted city on Sunday, as thick smog kept air quality at hazardous levels across the city. The city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 448, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) sources. Readings above 300 are classed as hazardous.

The highest readings were recorded at Iqbal Town, at 617, followed by Paragon City at 513, Model Town at 453, Chaman Park at 430 and Barki Road at 427. DHA Phase 5 recorded 324, also above the hazardous threshold. Readings vary by station and time of day, so figures from different places and times are not directly comparable.

On Monday morning, IQAir again placed Lahore at the top of its world ranking, with an AQI of 493.

The Punjab government’s anti-smog enforcement between 28 September and 27 October demolished 197 non-compliant brick kilns, sealed 163 units and registered 162 First Information Reports (FIRs).
