Pakistan’s armed forces targeted and destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts and military positions in areas next to South Waziristan and Parachinar, in retaliation for firing that killed a local civilian and injured five members of one family.
The firing took place on 27 October in the Angoor Adda area. One local civilian was killed, and five members of a single family were injured.
The army used heavy weaponry, including artillery, in the response. Taliban personnel abandoned their posts and fled, according to the reports. Several personnel of the Afghan Taliban regime were reported killed. No exact number was given in the sources checked.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the firing. He said Pakistan would never tolerate attacks on its people or violations of its sovereignty.
Pakistan dismissed a claim by the Afghan defence ministry that Pakistan was the aggressor, describing it as a fabrication.
This is a follow-up to the border flare-up reported the previous day.
