Pakistan has successfully test-fired the Fa’az, its first indigenously developed beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile, from a JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, the military’s media wing announced on Wednesday.

The missile, developed by Pakistan’s defence scientists, struck its target during the test, demonstrating what the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) called “a major milestone in the country’s journey toward self-reliance in defence production.”

“The successful test reflects the growing technological prowess of Pakistan’s defence industry,” the ISPR statement said, adding that senior military officials and scientists witnessed the launch.

Defence analysts say the Fa’az significantly enhances the Pakistan Air Force’s air-combat capability, reducing dependence on imported missile systems. The development comes amid a broader push to expand the country’s indigenous arms exports.

No details were released on the missile’s range or specifications, in line with the military’s policy on strategic programmes.
