At least 17 terrorists were killed in two intelligence-based operations in Balochistan, while a soldier was martyred in an exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

In the first operation in the general area of Harnai, nine terrorists were “sent to hell” after an intense firefight, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site.

A second engagement in the Kech district left eight more terrorists dead. “Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area,” the ISPR statement added.

The martyred soldier was identified as 27-year-old Sepoy Hikmatullah, a resident of Khyber district, who “fought gallantly” during the exchange, according to the statement.

Security forces have intensified operations across Balochistan in recent months amid a surge in militant attacks. The military reaffirmed its resolve to “wipe out the menace of terrorism” from the country.
