The government has unveiled a new LPG policy aimed at curbing black marketing and ensuring supply at notified prices, as consumers continue to pay far above the official rate.

Under the policy, OGRA will enforce a uniform pricing mechanism, with dealers required to display notified rates and issue receipts. Violations will attract fines and licence suspension, the Petroleum Division said.

The move comes amid widespread complaints that LPG is being sold at Rs600–700 per kg in many areas against the official price of around Rs257 per kg, with dealers blaming supply disruptions from Taftan.

“The new framework introduces strict monitoring from import terminals to retail outlets,” a Petroleum Division official said. A dedicated helpline will allow consumers to report overcharging.

Consumer rights groups cautiously welcomed the policy but said enforcement, not announcements, would determine its success. “We have seen many policies; what matters is action on the ground,” one activist said.
